The 2.4m turbine has an estimated monthly output of 130kWh in an average wind-speed of 6m/s. We think that this is a more realistic way to rate a wind turbine than giving a maximum output figure, if rated commercially this turbine would be rated at 1kW which is a little meaningless in the real world. According to Home Power magazine the American Wind Energy Association is developing a standard for small wind turbines. The standard will include a kW rating at a standard 25mph, not at an arbitrary wind speed decided by the manufacturer. Much more important will be standardised energy (kWh) estimates which put all turbines on a level playing field.

We both could not believe the amount we learned, how informative the course was, that we were allowed to do so much, and how enjoyable it was.
