Constructing a wind turbine to charge batteries in Kartong village, The GambiaIn the autumn of 2009 I took part on a course on How To Build A Wind Turbine at the CAT in Wales under the instruction of Hugh Piggott. Keeping in mind the experience RB and I had had of The Gambia as well as the fact that he had run several Leeds Met volunteering excursions to Indonesia (2 of which I went on as a student volunteer) he suggested to run a volunteering project that involved constructing a wind turbine  for Kartong village.Shortly after, Maurice visited the UK. French Rooftop wind turbines

While in Paris I was reminded of an old Bob Dylan song with the refrain, "When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn." I ask myself this question a lot as I travel the world talking about renewable energy because it seems "they never do learn" about what works and what doesn't work when it comes to wind energy. There's always another inventor with a sooper-dooper new wind turbine and a gullible public to believe them.By Paul Gipe Read the full story here

Newsflash

Irish Seed Savers Association, Capparoe, Scarriff, Co. Clare

This is a hands-on, practical day. We will be installing a PV (photovoltaic) system to run a few small lights at the cob house. This will be a 12volt, off-grid system running LED lighting. First we will explain what the various components of the system are and how the system will work. Then it's outside where we will be installing the PV panel, running cables, installing the lights, placing batteries in their enclosure and wiring them up, connecting the system up and switching on the lights.
