Introduction to Renewable Energy Systems.
This course will provide an overview of the three basic renewable systems - wind, photovoltaic and micro-hydro energy, discussing planning permission, feed-in tarriffs and site analysis to give you of what might work for your home. The goal of the course is to create an understanding of the core concepts necessary including system components and, very importantly, site analysis. The site is the prime decider in considering which system would suit you best. We will also discuss whether to go off-grid, feed into the grid or have a combined battery/grid system. We will have general analysis of energy usage and looking at ways to reduce it – saving energy is the first place to start when you are considering a renewable energy system.

Newsflash

Irish Seed Savers Association, Capparoe, Scarriff, Co. Clare

This is a hands-on, practical day. We will be installing a PV (photovoltaic) system to run a few small lights at the cob house. This will be a 12volt, off-grid system running LED lighting. First we will explain what the various components of the system are and how the system will work. Then it's outside where we will be installing the PV panel, running cables, installing the lights, placing batteries in their enclosure and wiring them up, connecting the system up and switching on the lights.
