The March wind turbine building workshop started today in Ballinamore, we are making a 1800mm 24v machine.
We started the day working on the blades, they are made up from six lenghts of 2x1" white deal to give us the width we need.
Rather than buying glue we mixed up some of the vinyl-ester, this is the first time I have used it to laminate blades and it will be interesting to see how it works over time. This little turbine is going to be installed at our place so I can keep an eye on it.
On Sunday the 21st of March we installed the new 3.1 metre wind turbine at our place in Leitrim. It was built on the February course in Ballinamore and we also displayed it in the st Patrick's day parade in Ballinamore.

Some parts ready for assembly (the coils are in the stator, the green bit)
This was a first for a home-made wind turbine as far as we are aware - the first self-built wind turbine in a St. Patrick's Day Parade. The 3.1m dia turbine was made in Ballinamore at a workshop with mostly local people so it seemed fitting to enter it into the local parade.

We were in good company here with a few beautiful old Porsche tractors. As you can see that is us in the background - the green truck - thanks Muiris for being involved with your tipper truck :)
Our next wind turbine building workshop is on the 29th of March - 2 April in Ballinamore Co Leitrim
We only have room for six people and at the moment we have two people booked so that only leaves four places left. Get in touch with us as soon as possible and we will help you out with any information that you might need.
Hhave a look at our past workshops and photo album to see what it's all about.

Irish Seed Savers Association, Capparoe, Scarriff, Co. Clare This is a hands-on, practical day. We will be installing a PV (photovoltaic) system to run a few small lights at the cob house. This will be a 12volt, off-grid system running LED lighting. First we will explain what the various components of the system are and how the system will work. Then it's outside where we will be installing the PV panel, running cables, installing the lights, placing batteries in their enclosure and wiring them up, connecting the system up and switching on the lights. |
